Social Responsibility

In 1927, Colombian Coffee growers formed the National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia as a non-profit organization, whose mission is to improve the coffee growers living conditions.

More than eighty years later, the Federation continues to fulfill its mission, protecting growers from price declines in the world coffee market via the Coffee Fund, administering social services to populations in coffee-growing areas, designing and supporting coffee quality programs and research, promoting global marketing activities like the "100% Colombian Coffee Program" and developing strategies to connect directly the coffee growers to the end consumers through value added products with the brand “Juan Valdez Café”, among others.

Every time you buy a Juan Valdez Cafe product, the Colombian coffee growers are benefited in three ways:
  1. A percentage of the revenues is directed to the coffee fund, with which in-valuable social services have been funded, benefiting millions of people with:
Education: coffee funded programs have built over 6,000 schools with 17,000 classrooms, accommodating up to 360,000 children. In addition, it has constructed about 5,000 housing facilities for teachers.

Healthcare: t
he Federation has built more than 180 clinics and 200 rural health centers and sponsors mass vaccination campaigns for children.

Electrification, Telephone and Waterworks
: the re-investment program has brought electricity to over 200,000 rural homes, dramatically improved telephone systems, constructed community drainage systems and built 5,000 rural aqueducts.

Transportation
the Federation’s resources have constructed, maintained and paved over 7,000 miles of roadways and built 2,500 bridges, helping to facilitate transport of coffee to market and improving methods of everyday transportation.
  1. Profits add economic value to the investment done by more than 20,000 coffee growers who directly own shares of the company, and the other 480,000 aprox. that are represented by the Federation.
  1. Increases the volume of coffee purchased directly to the Colombian coffee growers at prices that enables them higher living standards

These contributions are very important for the more than 500,000 Colombian cafeteros, who own farms of an average size of just 2 hectares!

Thank you.
